Behind Stephen Curry’s Golf Success: Coach Alex Riggs Breaks It Down

South Lake Tahoe -There’s something special about summer in Lake Tahoe. The crystal-blue water, towering Sierra Nevada mountains, and breathtaking scenery create the perfect backdrop for one of the most anticipated celebrity sporting events of the year, the American Century Championship.

Each July, thousands of fans line the fairways at Edgewood Tahoe Golf Course to watch an impressive field of professional athletes, entertainers, and celebrities compete for the tournament title. Among the biggest fan favorites is Stephen Curry, who has become one of the event’s signature stars after more than a decade of participation.

Curry made his American Century Championship debut in 2013 and captured his first title in 2023, fulfilling a goal he had chased for 10 years. While he describes the tournament as a family tradition, playing alongside his father, Dell Curry, and brother, Seth Curry, the four-time NBA champion never loses his competitive edge.

For Curry, the week is about more than enjoying time with family in one of the country’s most scenic destinations. Every shot matters, and his sights are firmly set on adding another championship trophy to his résumé.

But repeating as champion is no easy task.

The field is stacked with elite golfers and accomplished athletes, including former champions and low-handicap players who return every year with the same goal. Curry knows the margin for error is slim, and he isn’t shy about acknowledging just how difficult the competition has become.

As another American Century Championship gets underway, Curry enters the week with confidence, experience, and the belief that he has what it takes to once again contend for the title.

Curry’s golf coach breaks down what has been a challenge in gettign back to that championship form. Curry and his coach spend a lot of time before and after in perfecting his game.

While Stephen Curry remains one of the tournament favorites, returning to championship form hasn’t come without challenges. Curry’s longtime golf coach, Alex Riggs, says refining every aspect of his game has been the key to staying competitive in one of the strongest fields in celebrity golf. The two spend countless hours on the practice range before and after practice this week, working to fine-tune Curry’s swing, sharpen his short game, and eliminate the small mistakes that can make the difference between contending for a title and falling short.

That commitment to improvement is one of the reasons Curry has evolved from a celebrity golfer into a legitimate championship contender. As he chases another American Century Championship, the work behind the scenes continues long after the crowds have left the course.
