SOUTH LAKE TAHOE, Calif. — Mardy Fish captured his third American Century Championship title on Sunday, adding another trophy to his growing collection while becoming the first champion to receive the tournament’s new white championship jacket, introduced this year.
The victory marked an impressive turnaround for the former tennis star. Just one year ago, Fish endured one of his most disappointing performances at Edgewood Tahoe Golf Course, posting uncharacteristically low scores that left him well out of contention. This year, however, he returned focused and determined, delivering a consistent performance from start to finish.
“It was kind of a weird round today, weird start,” said Fish, who won in 2020 and 2024.
Fish four-putted the par-5 third hole and made bogey. On the sixth hole, after three straight bogeys, he said he did a mental reset and then played the final 13 holes at 2-under par.
“I did enough to win,” he said. “I didn’t play my best today, but I did enough.”
Fish held off a talented field that included defending champion Joe Pavelski and 2023 champion Stephen Curry, both of whom remained in contention throughout the weekend. Despite the pressure from two former champions, Fish maintained his composure and built enough of a cushion to secure the 2026 American Century Championship outright.
The victory further cements Fish’s place among the tournament’s elite competitors. Once again, he proved that experience, consistency, and resilience are the keys to success at one of celebrity golf’s most prestigious events.
